<note>The objective of the research is to know The Comparative Study of
Scanning and Intensive Reading on Improving Students’ Reading
Comprehension. The population of this research took population in the Tenth
grade students of SMAN 24 Kabupaten Tangerang in academic year 2018/2019.
The number of the tenth grade students is 379 students. Subject of this research
are 74 students. The researcher used quasi experiment by using nonparametric
test design.
The data of independent variable (X) was collected through teaching with
Scanning and Intensive reading, while the data dependent variable (Y) was
collected from multiple choice test students reading comprehension skill (pre-test
and post-test). The data analysis technique and testing hypothesis was done using
nonparametric test by the Mann-Whitney. The result of hypothesis has been
shows that the Sig. is 0.009 < 0.05, it means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.
Thus, it can be said that there is intensive reading has significant effect than
scanning on improving in teaching students’ reading comprehension. So, intensive
reading is better on improving students’ reading comprehension. It can be
concluded that, there is also difference effect between using intensive reading and
scanning in teaching students’ reading comprehension.
Therefore, it can be concluded from the data analysis in the research that
there was a positive effect of the comparative study scanning and intensive
reading on improving students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade in SMA
Negeri 24 Kabupaten Tangerang.</note>
