<note>This study aims to determine whether there is a significant effect on the use of Instagram
as a medium on students’ writing abilities, especially writing descriptive texts for students at SMP
Negeri 1 Sepatan for the 2022/2023 academic year. The method used in this research is
quantitative; namely experimental research using a Quasi-Experimental pretest-posttest design in
which there are two classes that are used as experimental classes class that is taught using
Instagram as a learning medium. And also, a control class that is taught witout using Instagram.
The population in this study were all eighth-grade students, then the subjects in this study were
held in grade 8.4 as experimental class and 82 as control class at SMP Negeri 1 Sepatan. There
were 30 students taken as samples in this study. The data collection technique used by researchers
is by using tests (pretest and posttest). Meanwhile, to analyze the data, researchers used
quantitative analysis using several statistical formulas. The results of the data analysis showed that
there was a significant difference between the students’ pretest and posttest scores. The result in
experimental class is that the maximum score in the posttest is greater than the maximum score in
the pretest. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Instagram as learning media can
improving students’ writing skills, especially writing descriptive texts for students at SMP Negeri
1 Sepatan for the 2022/2023 academic year.</note>
