The effect of speedy english grammar game on students’ descriptive writing skill (Experimental study at the tenth grade students of SMA Paradigma, year 2020/2021)
Studies on the use of mobile applications-based educational games for English
learning media especially for teaching and learning writing skills had found positive
results in improving students' writing skills and learner engagement. This research
aim was to examine the effect of using Speedy English Grammar Game as a
learning media on descriptive writing skills of the tenth grade students of SMA
Paradigma in academic year 2020/2021. This was a quantitative research method
using quasi experimental research of non-equivalent control group design. The 35
students in the experimental class and 35 students in the control class were the
samples selected purposively. The data were collected by the way of administering
tests. The data analysis showed that the working hypothesis (Ha) was statistically
accepted while the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It means there was a
significant difference between the mean score of the experimental class that used
Speedy English Grammar Game and the control class that used the conventional
teaching method. It showed that the use of Speedy English Grammar Game imparts
a significant effect on students’ descriptive writing skills rather compared to
conventional teaching.
