The effect of metacognitive strategy on students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMK Al-Hasanah in academic year 2018/2019
This study attempted to find out the effect of metacognitive strategy on reading
comprehension. This study conducted at the first semester of the tenth grade of SMK
Al-Hasanah in academic year 2018/2019. The independent variable in this research is
metacognitive strategy. The dependent variable investigated in this study was reading
comprehension. The study was an experimental. The total number of population was 5
classes.. From the population, two classes used as samples. They were divided into two
groups: Metacognitive strategy group and conventional instruction group. In this study,
the scores of students’ reading comprehension acquired by administering reading
comprehension test. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 24. The result of the
analysis showed that: (1) There was an effect of using metacognitive strategy on
students’ reading comprehension. However, the value is under from minimal mastery
level criterion (KKM). (2) There was significant difference in reading descriptive text
who was taught by using metacognitive strategy. (3) There was interaction between
metacognitive strategy and reading comprehension. Based on the result of the study, it
can be concluded that metacognitives starategy was better than conventional instruction
on students’ reading comprehension.
