Improving students’ reading comprehension through collaborative learning at eleventh grade of SMA Genta Syaputra in academic year 2018/2019
Reading comprehension can be defined as the process in which the readers
construct meaning from a text connected to the background knowledge they have
to get the clear understanding of the writer’s message. The result of the pre-test
showed that most of the students in senior high school faced problem in reading
comprehension. The objective of the present study was to figure out the
effectiveness of Collaborative Learning in teaching reading comprehension on
the eleventh grade of SMA Genta Syaputra in academic year 2018/2019.
Therefore, to achieve the objective of the study, the researcher conducted
experimental research in which there are experimental class and control class.
The research instruments were given in order to collect the data needed. Then,
the data were analyzed by comparing the result of pre-test and post-tests. As
supporting data, a questionnaire was also administered in the end of the
treatment and the result showed positive responses with the implementation of
collaborative learning. Based on the result of the pre-test, post tests and
questionnaire, it could be concluded that collaborative learning was very
effective in teaching reading comprehension on the eleventh grade of SMA
Genta Syaputra in academic year 2018/2019.
