This research was conducted to find out the effect between using graphic
organizers and estafet writing in teaching writing. The aim of this research are: (1)
To find out the significant effect of using Graphic Organizers on improving students
writing ability in teaching writing, (2) To find out the significant effect of using
Estafet Writing on improving students writing ability in teaching writing, (3) To
find out that Graphic Organizers has significant effect than Estafet Writing on
improving students writing ability in Teaching Writing. The population of this
research was the eleventh grade students at SMAN 20 Kabupaten Tangerang. The
writer took the homogeny two classes namely first experimental class using graphic
organizers and second experimental class using estafet writing with 30 students as
the sample in each class. This research used quasi experimental group - nonequivalent control group design. The writer used pre-test and post-test to get the
data. The pre-test was given before treatment while post-test was given after
treatments for both class.
Based on the result of this research, the writer took conclusion as follows:
After analyzing data, (1) The mean of the students’ score in teaching writing that
was taught by using graphic organizers was 83.87 > before the treatment, so Ha was
accepted and Ho was rejected. (2) The mean of the students’ score in teaching
writing that was taught by using estafet writing was 78.53 > before the treatment,
so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected (3) The result showed that both of
techniques has significant effect on improving students’ writing ability. But, the
Graphic Organizers technique has more significant effect than Estafet Writing
technique. So, graphic organizers can be applied in teaching writing for students by
the teacher in the class.
