Here the researcher chooses the listening comprehension because the
researcher believes and knows that listening comprehension is the gate to know what
the speaker said in English. The aim of this research was to know whether there is a
significant effect of pre-listening activity using Colloquial English and Standard
English to improving the student‟s listening comprehension and to know whether
using Colloquial English has more significant impact or not than using Standard
English after applying pre-listening activity at the eleventh grade students of SMAN
14 Kota Tangerang. This research is quantitative method, 34 students as the sample
which taken nonrandom by using quasi experimental research with time series design.
Student‟s test were used by the researcher to collect the data. Based on the findings of
the researcher, that there is a significant different between pre-listening activity using
Colloquial English and using Standard English. Pre-listening activity using
Colloquial English has more significant impact to improve student‟s listening
comprehension than pre-listening activity using Standard English on Eleventh Grade
students at SMAN 14 Kota Tangerang in academic year 2020/2021. The findings of
this research provide suggestion that the teacher have to find the way to improve the
student‟s listening comprehension. One of them is by doing pre-listening activity
using Colloquial English.
