The effect of social media (Instagram) towards students’ writing skill in descriptive text at tenth grade of SMK Nurul Hikmah in academic year 2019/2020


The purpose of this study is to know the effect of social media (Instagram) (X) and their writing ability in descriptive text (Y) at tenth grade of SMK Nurul Hikmah Kab. Tangerang in academic year 2019/2020. There were 52 students taken as the sample of this study who were determined by 26 students in control class and 26 in experiment class. The collected data were pre-test and post-test by using Instagram technique and the instruments used were students’ writing descrriptive test as a caption. Subsequently, the research finding indicated that there is significant effect in the experiment class by using Instagram technique on the students writing skill in descriptive text at tenth grade of SMK Nurul Hikmah. It is considered that alternative hypothesis (H0) in this research is rejected and the null hypothesis (H1) which stated that there is a significant effect of Instagram on their writing descriptive text is accepted. In conclusion, the result of hypothesis test that using common method and using Instagram technique at SMK Nurul Hikmah Kab. Tangerang shows a positive effect. However, students should improve the way of study, use perfectly time, and had good habit to write. In writing, students are very suggested to practice writing. In order the students familiar with conversational English language support.
