The effect of digital storytelling on the students’ visual memory and writing skill at the tenth grade of SMAN 5 Kabupaten Tangerang in academic year 2019/2020


The aim of this research was to know whether there is a significant effect of
digital storytelling on the students’ visual memory and writing skill and to
determine which one is more dominant between visual memory and writing skill
after applying digital storytelling of students at the tenth grade of SMAN 5
Kabupaten Tangerang. This research is quantitative method, 72 students as the
sample which taken nonrandom by using quasi experimental research-nonequivalent control group design. Students’ test and questionnaires were used by the
researcher to collect the data. The hypotheses data was tested using formula of ttest, it was known that between experimental and control class in visual memory
got −tcount > −ttable (-1,425 > -1,994) and in writing skill −tcount > −ttable (-
1,639 > -1,994). It means, there was not significant difference used digital
storytelling on the students’ visual memory and writing skill at the tenth grade of
SMAN 5 Kabupaten Tangerang, because the condition of students were same
proficiency, focused, had concentration, and students in experimental class had
many opinions during the learning. Then, it was also known from the percentages
students’ posttest showing 100% students can pass visual memory and 58%
students can pass writing skill, so visual memory was more dominant than writing
skill after applying digital storytelling. Moreover, students’ learning motivation was
very good and created a good of class atmosphere in experimental class of using
digital storytelling with the percentages of learning motivation 81% and class
atmosphere 68%.
